Perspectives on the Optoelectronics Industry: 2 - Innovation (Forum Report)

(October 2008, 71 pages - Download)

A critical question for the optoelectronics industry is what approaches can be implemented to accelerate innovation (innovation is defined here as the commercialization of research results). There is a plethora of methods and case histories of successful innova-tion in the industry over the past decades. However, with the decline in longer-term corporate research and limitations in government-funded research, there is now a need to survey and assess innovation strategies that could be most productive in the current business climate.

This report documents some of the issues raised at the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association (OIDA) forum and provides a review on the critical issue of innovation in the U.S. and the impact it has on future American competitiveness and technology leadership.
